Rooftop Apartment for Lease –
Rare Opportunity to try Cohousing

Unique opportunity to live in an urban cohousing community.  Light-filled top-floor unit in a nine-unit building in Seattle’s vibrant Capitol Hill.  Steps to Cal Anderson Park, the shops and restaurants of Pike and Pine Streets, and the Capitol Hill Link Light Rail Station.  Walking distance to Seattle University and Seattle Central College; one light rail stop to the University of Washington. Convenient for Swedish, Virginia Mason, Harborview and Kaiser Permanente hospitals. Elementary, middle and high schools within walking distance.

The unit has two bedrooms plus an office, 1 full and one 1/2 bath, a gourmet kitchen and ample closet space.  Appliances include a full-sized high-efficiency Whirlpool washer & dryer, Liebherr refrigerator, Kitchenaid induction cooktop and oven, Miele dishwasher.  The unit also comes fully furnished with high-end kitchen equipment (stand-mixer, rice cooker, etc.), office equipment (ergonomic chairs, color laser printer, monitor), and a ceiling-mounted projector for movie nights.  (Furnishing is negotiable.)

Capitol Hill Urban Cohousing consists of nine families who planned and developed a building where we could have our own fully independent units and also enjoy strong community bonds, frequent shared meals, a rooftop “farm,” collective decision-making, and a firm commitment to our neighborhood, our broader community and the planet.  Children range in age from 5 to 17 and have ample opportunities to play together.

Pre-covid, community meals were prepared three times a week by rotating teams that involve all adult residents.  On those nights, families convened in the spacious and well-equipped common kitchen and dining space to eat together.  Omnivore, vegetarian, vegan and allergy-sensitive options were always provided.  We are working our way back to that program as community members get vaccinated.  In lieu of a management company, standard building maintenance (gardening, trash disposal, etc.) is also performed by teams of residents.  Ideally, tenants will fully participate in the life of the building.

The building is pet-friendly (although there are some restrictions on where pets are allowed leash-free), gun-free, and tobacco-smoke-free.

Rent is $3600/month (negotiable) and includes all utilities, including high-speed WiFi.
